Overview
To help keep your organization’s data secure, it’s important to follow a few key guidelines when it comes to user credentials:
-
Never share your password with anyone.
-
Only reassign usernames after the original user has been permanently deactivated and no longer has access to the system.
-
If reusing a username (as permitted), do not reuse the password; create a new one for the new user.
About CQ powered by Salesforce Usernames
CQ usernames must be unique within each environment type (Production or Sandbox). This means:
-
The same username can exist in both a Production and a Sandbox org, but not in two Production orgs or two Sandboxes.
-
To avoid confusion, we recommend using distinct usernames for each environment; for example:
-
julie@company.comfor Production -
julie@company.sandboxfor Sandbox
-
Usernames must follow the format of an email address (e.g., julie@salesforce.com), but the email doesn’t need to be real or match the email address associated with your account. You can use the same email address across multiple orgs, even if the usernames are different.
Troubleshooting
-
If you see a Duplicate Username error, the username may already be in use in another org (Production, Sandbox).
-
Try deactivating or renaming the existing user record before creating a new one.
-

CQ Support cannot change usernames or deactivate users. Contact your CQ Admin for help.
